Here’s a simple and delicious turkey sausage recipe you can make at home:
Homemade Turkey Sausage
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground turkey
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ½ teaspoon dried sage
- ½ teaspoon soy sauce
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for a bit of heat)
- ½ tablespoon of maple syrup if you want less sweet 1 teaspoon
Instructions:
- Mix the Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, sage, soy sauce, maple syrup and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well until all the spices are evenly distributed throughout the turkey.
- Form Patties: Divide the turkey mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Cook the Sausages: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the turkey sausage patties to the skillet, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Or bake for 15 minutes on 400 degrees. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
- Serve: Remove the patties from the skillet and let them drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve hot.
Tips:
- Make Ahead: You can prepare the sausage mixture and shape the patties ahead of time. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before cooking.
- Freezing: These sausage patties freeze well. Freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer them to a freezer bag once frozen. Cook directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
- Versatility: These turkey sausages are great for breakfast, in sandwiches, or crumbled into dishes like pasta or casseroles.
