If you follow me on Instagram (@NKFitnessandnutritionLLC) then you know that I drink smoothies every morning for breakfast, and I get really creative. Smoothies are a great healthy option because you can pack them with great nutrients, there are endless options, and are great for on the go! I’ve been known to make some of the best smoothies 😉 so here are my tips to make amazing smoothies every time!
- Pick a Green and Leafy Base-What better way to get your vegetables in by having it blended into your smoothie. I like to choose green and leafy vegetables that have lots of nutrients but are not strong in taste (no grass smoothies please lol). My favorites:
- Kale
- Spinach
- Make it Stick to Your Stomach– Next I like to add things to my smoothie that keep me full and is low in calories and carbs. Also, this adds some flavor to your smoothie. My favorites:
- Protein Powder- normally vanilla…you can never go wrong with vanilla!
- Greek Yogurt- again I like vanilla because it goes well with most ingredients
- Flax-seeds-these have a flavor to them like a nutty taste
- Chia seeds- have no flavor but they will get stuck in your teeth
- Frozen Fruit-No ice needed in my smoothies, I use frozen fruit! Frozen fruit is cheap and this is where all the good flavor is introduced. I normally get my frozen fruit from Trader Joes or freeze fruit that I buy fresh from the store. I usually mix and match my fruit depending on how I am feeling in the morning! My favorite fruit to use:
- Mango
- Pineapple
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Mixed Berries
- Bananas
- Pick Your Liquid- Water is an option but is rather boring to me…no bland smoothies over here! I have two favorites that I use that are low in calories and carbs:
- Coconut Water- my ultimate favorite! This gives you a more tropical taste without using sugary juices!
- Almond Milk-my second favorite! This gives you a more milkshake taste and adds an almond flavor!
- Blend Baby– I use a Nutri Ninja!
